Day 18
Miles 8
It was a climb right from the start. And oh what a climb it was. We were so thankful we’d found the spot we had for the last day and a half; there were no others for miles.
We came to an overlook where the whole green world spread out across the land. Everywhere. Cliffs and green. Trees and green.
We called S. Lake Tahoe California Hwy Patrol to see if they’ll help us cross Hwy 89 safely on Saturday at 1pm. They gave an assuring ‘maybe’ and said they’d call back.
We plowed through huge meadows of the tallest, greenest, flowery flowers I’d ever seen. Crammed together like a bag of marbles. The boys took forever to move along. Salad and all…
We finally made our slow ass way to Showers Lake where an off leash dog greeted us, followed by some Old Naked Guy.
Neither was something we totally wanted to see.
We took the boys up in the woods for a long rest and I fell asleep in the sun. Then move to the shade and fell asleep again. Then moved to the sun again.
We found a pond with a meadow, but we preferred running water, and there was some about 1.6 miles ahead. We opted to move on. When we came upon the stream, it was lovely and cold and clean. We got some water in our water bottles and carried it in a bucket and called it groceries and set up camp far away from the water and the trail. A place of our own where we could just.be. for another day off.
Just. Be.
No answering questions. No celebrity status. No photos. Just the boys
And the meadow
And Some Groceries
