Anji was actually pretty lucky she didn’t share a tent with me. I farted up a storm all night, and it was raining, so I couldn’t even open the door. Oh man, it was bad.
Eventually, the night was almost over, and we got up at 4am. We hit the trail by 5:15.
Now, if you get freaked out at all, I’m happy to take the lead, I said.
Ok, Anji said, and got all zippy and took off to the top of the hill, leaving me heaving for breath way down behind her. I’m so brave! So is she!
We walked into the dawn, cotton candy mist clinging to the valleys way down below. Turning strawberry with the rising sun. The trail went this way and that, all pleasant and happy for a while.
We came to an active burn zone, with burn marks right up to the trail. Quite grateful it wasn’t on fire today. But it was recently, and it was oh so stinky. I hate the smell of fire. Ludo Smell Bad.
The Stink Forest.
It rained some and then it was hot, and then it rained some more. Repeat. We came across some horses and lots of mountain bikers. Took a long lunch in the shade. It rained some more. Repeat.
Eventually, and finally, we ended up here. At a lovely little creek. When I decided and announced I was done walking for the day, Anji respected that enough to bring me wet towels to wash myself, and hot chocolate, and very smelly DoTerra lotion for my feet.
She also helped me organize because I’m so tired that I’m a complete disaster.
Anji rocks.

I love this phrase: ‘”cotton candy mist”. I can completely picture it in my mind. Also, haha, “the stink forest”.
