Day 34

Miles Hiked 0

My feet hurt all night, so I was awake for most of it. I wish I would just get up and take Advil when that happens. I cannot imagine why I don’t.

So after a long and miserable night, I finally got up and took Advil at about 7am. I was fine by 7:20.

Ben cooked breakfast over the fire, and we watched the bald eagle couple fly back to their nest. We broke out the binoculars and think we saw a baby bald eagle head.

So, so amazing.

Slowly, over the course of the day, my husband and our entire gang of humans with tons of dogs, showed up.

Beers and s’mores and lots of amazing food cooked by and eaten with my amazing friends.

Evening was winding down. I tossed my corn cob in the fire. Three little logs were placed on top. Soon, each little space where the kernel once was became a tiny glowing light. It was the most beautiful thing in the world.

“Come look at the beautiful nubbins!”

What? Said everybody.

“Come over here! Look, do you see? It’s Log, Log, Log, Beautiful Nubbins!”

Before the night was over, everything of any interest was ‘beautiful nubbins’.

It was a Beautiful Nubbins kinda night.
