Global Deaths: 119,687
So he’s back to work since apparently it’s Monday and people do that on Mondays. I’m still on Admin Leave, so I just cleaned the house.
There’s a smattering of talk about “reopening the country” in stages. The President says he has Total Authority because he forgot how the United States works. And the young and the old are apparently drinking Bloody Marys and watching Tiger King every evening.
We caved and watched Tiger King too because everyone is doing it and the Peer Pressure got to us and we wanted to keep up with the Joneses. We watched Saturday Night Live where everyone taped from their own homes and Tom Hanks was the host, only so the world could verify he’d recovered and was doing okay for real.
I still feel safe, and that could be a concern, I suppose. But I feel that way anyway and the weather is warm and Sherlock is really happy that I can take him on a long walk in the hills every day. And we painted more garden signs and I quit early and just lay on my back on the patio and soaked up the readily available and free Vitamin D. Trucker hat plopped over my eyes.
The US officially has the largest amount of deaths now. And I know now that the Winter That Didn’t Exist until COVID did, is finally going to leave. Maybe not right away. These days, each week lasts an entire year, after all. But the squirrel outside got himself a girlfriend and they take turns running into the yard and filling up their little fat cheeks with the seeds that the birds dropped from the feeder. And we point at him and laugh and Aidan is going to build them a little Squirrel Picnic Table.
And the birds sing and sing and sing and we close our eyes and let their songs become the songs of these times. We memorize them so we can use them later.
I’m really going to miss these days, when things change. When one way or the other, they do.
