I finished my paint by number just in time because Karen sent me a tattoo adult coloring book, so now I have a new project. Besides, my thumb is bruised anyway from opening and closing all those little paints over and over again. Quarantine Injuries.

There are crazy amounts of people in the hillsides now. And they all have dogs. And I watch them run and bike and throw balls and wander around on the Cookie-Colored Ridgetops and sandy trails. They all seem respectful of space and I hope they will all keep getting out in the hills for the rest of their lives.

The Stellar’s Jay sits at the top of the neighbor’s tree every day and wonders why the neighbors don’t come out to give him peanuts anymore. But I think his peanuts are probably at the end of the list of things they’re focusing on. Miss G. meows at me and follows me around everywhere and she’s making me berserk, so Aidan fashions a sling of sorts with a soft, cream-colored scarf I got with my Mom is Paris last year. He ties Miss G. to my chest and I do the dishes and sweep the floors and she seems totally comfortable and makes biscuits on my shoulder and I can feel her rumbling purr through my sweatshirt.

6.6 million Americans filed for first time unemployment benefits last week. And I think – Good God.

And the Governor says people don’t have to pay rent or mortgages for a few months if they’re laid off and no one knows where that will lead and what kind of financial destruction will follow. The politicians like to tell everyone there’s no playbook for this. Except there is. And there has been. And maybe it’s not perfect, but we’ve always had people on the payroll to work on these sorts of scenarios…until their funding was quashed last year.

People can’t be compelled to show up to court, and the CDC is considering a recommendation that everyone wear masks every time they are in public. Homemade is fine. And Bandanas For The Desperate. Walmart may be only selling essential items soon so people stop strolling around and Poking At Products.

I ate some canned olives and stared out the window at all the people getting their Vitamin D and fresh air and I decide I guess I’ll go get some too. And I’ll take Sherlock.

Right after I color in my new coloring book.
